Typically those decks are playing less creatures to either abuse mass removal themselves or just to accommodate the extra walkers in their list and so a mass removal spell that can take out their main threats en masse is of great use in matchups where most other Wrath effects are complete garbage able to take out a token or two, parhaps a Wall of Omens, at best

You can slap it down and go full steam ahead doing 23 points of damage over 3 attacks and gaining you 8 to boot
