The habit is loosely pyramidal dressed with exquisite, lustrous dark green leaves, distinctly silvery beneath. Creamy white, lemon scented flowers unfold in May to June followed by 5cm long, dark red fruits maturing to reveal bright red seeds. Can manage periods of temporary wet conditions. Requires acidic soil. May drop leaves in severe winters. RHS hardiness rating: H6
